Visual learning for everyday life
See what’s coming.
Feel more prepared.
First Then Next® turns the day into a clear visual sequence—helping people understand what is happening now, what follows, and what comes after that.
The idea behind the name
Why First. Then. Next.?
“First–Then” is a familiar teaching approach that breaks a routine into two understandable steps: what happens first and what happens then. First Then Next adds what comes next—helping each moment fit into the larger day.
One moment at a time. One day made easier to understand.
Pictures make information easier to understand
A visual day works like a menu with pictures.
When we can see a dish, we do not have to create the entire picture from words alone. First Then Next works in a similar way. Meaningful photographs help people see the places, people, and activities ahead—making it easier to prepare, ask questions, make choices, and participate.
Designed for clarity
Essential for some.
Helpful for everyone.
Visual schedules can be especially valuable for neurodivergent people and others who benefit from predictable structure. But their usefulness extends well beyond any one group.
This is sometimes called the curb-cut effect. Curb cuts were created to provide access for wheelchair users, yet they also help parents with strollers, travelers with luggage, delivery workers, cyclists, and many others.
First Then Next® applies the same principle to understanding the day.
A calmer way to move through the day
See the plan. Prepare for what’s next.
Each meaningful image turns an abstract plan into a moment someone can recognize and follow.
